PETA Founder Says The Word Pet Is A Derogatory Name For Animals

The founder of the animal rights group PETA urges people to stop calling their dog cat or whatever animal that you have, “pets.” She says it’s a derogatory name to call a animal that and instead to use the term “Animal Companions” and instead of calling yourself a pet owner referre to yourself a “Animal Guardian”.
Ingrid Newkirk who’s the founder of PETA says the word “Pet” makes animals feel less than and I think she sounds out of her mind and bored.
We have topics and conversations about the use of other derogatory names and words used towards humans because of their religion, sexual preference, color of skin, or living with disabilities. I feel like this animal activist is trying to categorize the word “Pet” with those other derogatory names that actually has a powerful history behind it.
If we put our energy into more important things I think the world would be in a better place.
