Parents, Teachers & Senators Weigh In On Whether Or Not To Re-Open Schools Just Yet

During a recent interview, New York State Senator Pamela Helming (R) expressed her views on whether or not she believes that children should be safe enough to return to school.
“I strongly believe that the evidence shows that in-person schooling can be done safely. First of all, there’s that social connection with their teachers. Second of all, the social interaction with their peers and their friends…”
Many parents feel the same way. Some feel strongly enough to protest outside the Monroe County Department of Health.
While parents and Senators think its time to go back, some teachers disagree:
Adam Urbanski, president of the Rochester Teachers Association thinks that too many schools aren’t prepared to re-open safely:
“I think until we get enough people vaccinated, and until we figure out how to accommodate more students with six feet apart for social distancing, it’s going to be tough.”
