Omicron Detected in Monroe County

After warnings of the new COVID-19 variant, omicron has now been detected in Monroe County. The county made their announcement about the variant being detected, stating; “These results underscore the need for residents to keep following common-sense guidelines throughout the holiday season to protect themselves and their loved ones.”
Monroe County is encouraging people to get vaccinated, get their boosters, and wear masks when inside public spaces. Anyone who starts to develop symptoms should also seek a COVID test, and recommend staying home if you feel unwell and getting tested before gathering with others over the holidays. As of yesterday, Monroe County reported 568 new laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19.
