NYS Extends Ban on Evictions For Tenants Who Can’t Pay

During the daily briefing, Gov. Cuomo announced that tenants won’t have to worry about getting evicted from their homes this summer.
The eviction moratorium that was set to expire in June has been extended until August 20th 2020 due to the prolonged “pause” on New York State that prevents many people from going to work.
Not only can renters not be evicted from their homes, Gov. Cuomo also banned landlords from imposing late fees.
He also mentioned that you can use your security deposit as a rent payment and arrange to pay it back over time.
Congresswoman AOC is calling for the creation of a HUD fund that would reimburse landlords for the cost of cancelling rent in the next stimulus package. #CancelRent
