NY Lawmakers Will Be Voting On Monday for the Extension on the Eviction Ban
Written by Site Hub on April 29, 2021
The pandemic has caused an economic impact that has affected many. Since financial troubles became a priority for many, NY lawmakers voted last year on a law that prohibits a landlord to kick out their tenant due to financial issues. This law is in effect until May 1st, 2021. Now that we are reaching that date, NY lawmakers are trying to extend this. Unfortunately, they have pushed back the voting from the expected date of yesterday to this upcoming Monday. Manhattan/Brooklyn state Senator Brian Kavanagh is the one who introduced the extension, pushing for August 31, 2021.
The law provides safety to struggling tenants unable to pay rent due to financial hardship caused by the pandemic and it mandates landlords to provide hardship forms to tenants they would like to evict.
