Big Sean finally dropped his new album on Friday. The number of artists featured on the 70-minute masterpiece proves that everything he does is BIG! Stream ‘Detroit 2’ here.
Just like everything else in the world, Covid19 has forced “Detroit Day” to be celebrated months later than normal.
For Native Detroiters like myself, and Big Sean fans around the world, Detroit 2 day 2020 is September 4th, the release date of Sean Don’s project ‘Detroit 2’.
He was set to announce the album on March 13th aka 313 Day, a nod to the city’s area code. (Similar to 716 Day in Buffalo).
But then suddenly Covid hit and the world went into lockdown mode.
Now, after months of buildup, ‘Detroit 2’ is finally here: The 21-track album — follow-up to 2017’s “I Decided” and sequel to the 2012 mixtape “Detroit” — is loaded with guests including Eminem, Travis Scott, Lil Wayne, Post Malone, Justin Bieber, the late Nipsey Hussle and every Detroit MC I know.
Track #19 Friday Night Cypher reminds be of the Detroit Hip-Hop Shop battles portrayed in the movie 8 Mile.
In 9 min and 28 seconds, we get bars from Eminem, Big Sean, Tee Grizzly, Boldy James, Drego, Sada Baby, Kash Doll, Cash Kidd, Payroll, 42 Dugg and Royce Da 5’9″. (Whips brow)
The new album also includes Storytime contributions by Stevie Wonder, Dave Chappelle and Erykah Badu who pay tribute to the people and history of Detroit.
