New Zealand food bank distributes candy made from a potentially lethal amount of meth

A charity in Auckland, New Zealand, accidentally distributed candies containing a potentially lethal dose of methamphetamine in food parcels intended for homeless individuals. The Auckland City Mission, which received the sweets as a donation, has been contacting up to 400 recipients to recover the dangerous candies. The methamphetamine-laced candies, wrapped in pineapple-flavored packaging, were discovered after three people were hospitalized but later discharged. Each candy contained up to 300 times the usual dose of meth, making them extremely hazardous. The New Zealand Drug Foundation suggested that the candies were likely part of a cross-border smuggling scheme gone wrong. Authorities have retrieved 16 of the candies but remain uncertain about how many are still in circulation. The charity, which only accepts sealed commercial food products, is working closely with authorities to address the situation.
