New York City Ends Qualified Immunity For NYPD

On Thursday, March 25, 2021, the New York City Council voted to end qualified immunity for police officers.
New York City is the first in the country to do so.
This protection has allowed officers freedom from being held liable for their actions in the line of duty since 1967. With this clause, an officer of the law cannot be sued for misconduct. It even assists at times when an officer breaks the law.
This ‘qualified immunity’ stamp is obviously the main reason so many times in history, where even with visual evidence, nothing was done in justifying any charges held against an officer.
Because of qualified immunity, anyone privately connected to a hate group could easily see becoming a police officer as a smart move to get away with abusing people.
