New York Cancels June Regents Exams

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Monday that the 2020 June Regents exams will be canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The decision was made during this month’s Board of Regents meeting, according to Regents Chancellor Betty Rosa.
“I know that most of you have noticed that during our COVID-19 regulations, we did not address the issue of the June Regents examinations,” Rosa said at a press conference on Monday.
Students are required to take five Regents exams in the subjects of English, math, science and social studies to graduate. These exams are offered three times a year in January, June and in August.
However, state officials did not address how students would make up the exam or if a plan will be implemented to ensure this move will not affect when students graduate.
State officials did not say if August’s exams will be canceled.
“In the interim, please understand that these guidelines are going to focus on what is in the best interest of our students for the rest of the year,” Rosa said.
The announcement came after Cuomo announced the state’s PAUSE would be extended until April 29. The state closed schools last month and all learning has shifted to online.
