There is a new study that showed a rise in cancer with firefighters.
Earlier this week, a new protocol from the state fire prevention was put in placed to make sure firefighters rinse off their fire suits several times after battling a fire to remove some of those toxics chemicals and debris.
Some experts think the chemicals inside burning homes and buildings with furniture and other plastic materials are one of the major blames for the rise in cancer that firefighters are exposed too.
The study also shows a 9% rise in cancer among firefighters versus the general population. The study also says firefighters death rate due to cancer are also at a 14% higher rate.
A lot of the fire department in New York State had already been following the protocol that was recently put in place, so hopefully this can put some control all those rising numbers.
