New Moment In Black History – James C. Pennington

Last Thursday Yale University named a classroom after the first black student to attend the prestigious college.
Former slave who escaped in 1837, James C. Pennington went to Yale to get his education at a time where it when it was illegal for African-Americans to learn to read or write.
Pennington was not allowed to speak in class, use the library, or officially receive a degree according to a press release from Yale.
