New Gun Laws in Effect

As of today, September 1st, new restrictions on handguns and the license to carry in New York State are now in effect. Now, people applying for a concealed carry pistol permit will be required to complete a firearm safety training course, provide four character references and detail their social media history for the state. New applicants can expect to receive their permits anywhere from six months to a year after they apply.
Monroe County Clerk, Jamie Romeos stated: “We ask for continued patience. We know there’s a lot of frustration we share a lot of those frustrations…The good news is that for a current permit holder very little has changed. The only thing that has changed is they need to be a little more aware of where they can carry their weapons, and in Monroe County, the vast majority of our permits issued are carry conceal.”
