New Guidelines From Department Of Health Expand Qualifications For COVID-19 Vaccine In New York

According to new rules that the New York State Department of Health quietly issued last week, the list of individuals who qualify for a COVID-19 vaccine has greatly expanded.
Until the new rules were put in place, the only individuals who qualified for the vaccine were school faculty and staff and those over the age of 60.
The rule change comes as a result of the state anticipating a greater amount of vaccine doses that are on their way as the production rate of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has gotten much higher.
The increased production rate of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is partially responsible for the expansion of the guidelines. New York State is anticipating a larger shipment of vaccine doses in the coming weeks because of it.
Governor Andrew Cuomo gave a statement, saying:
“As New York receives more doses and more people receive the vaccine, we’re able to expand the population pharmacies can serve, and this is a commonsense step forward that will help make it easier to protect New Yorkers.”
