New Florida Bill Would Limit Discussion of Sexuality and Gender in Schools

New proposed legislation in Florida would restrict how teachers can discuss sexuality and gender in the classroom. This is in addition to the latest effort by Republican lawmakers to remove the teaching of LGBTQ issues from schools. Under this bill, Flordia social districts “may not encourage classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in primary grade levels or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students.”

President Biden weighed in on this, stating; “I want every member of the LGBTQI+ community — especially the kids who will be impacted by this. I want every member of the LGBTQI+ community — especially the kids who will be impacted by this hateful bill — to know that you are loved and accepted just as you are. I have your back, and my Administration will continue to fight for the protection and safety you deserve.”
