Movie Review: Captain Marvel
Written by wdkxwp on March 13, 2019
Captain Marvel is the latest story introduced into the Marvel Studios catalogue. The story begins in the midst of an intergalactic alien war where we find Carol Danver/Vers, played by Brie Larson, in a battle against her enemies, her own friends, and even within herself.
The film takes on an era not yet seen in the Marvel Universe, set in the mid 1990s, and accurately captures the culture of the decade in the fashion, music, technology, and lingo. We were also blessed with an origin story of the famous Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, now featuring two eyes!
Carol Danvers’ journey to becoming the most powerful superhuman being in the universe was the central focus, and the film’s message was overwhelmingly empowering, showcasing strong women as the saviors of the universe. A mood, indeed.
Not sure if premiering it on International Women’s Day (Friday, March 8, 2019) was purposeful, but hats off to Marvel on that one. Quirky humor, action packed, family friendly. Overall a great movie!
