More sad news hits the city of Rochester and SOTA alumni. Elyse Spencer, a 2019 graduate of the School of The Arts, was recently shot in the chest when she was caught in crossfire at a block party near Clark Atlanta University.

Spencer was among four women who sustained injuries from the shooting. The incident occurred after an argument broke out between two parties and one of them opened fire in the crowd of 200 people. Gunfire sparked around 10:30 p.m. and, as of now, the shooter has not been apprehended by Atlanta authorities.

Spencer and the other three women injured are now in stable condition. Unfortunately for her, she had just left Rochester a week prior to begin her college career at Spelman College.

Sadly, this comes just a week after the tragic loss of another SOTA alum, Shaniece Taylor. Her body was found in an apartment on Fourth street where she sustained an apparent gunshot wound. The shooter in Taylor’s case has not yet been identified.

Shaniece Taylor, Elyse Spencer and their families and friends will remain in our prayers. ??

P.S. To all my fellow SOTA alumni, keep ya’ll heads up!!
