Violence, expecially that of gun violence, is on the rise in Rochester. In 2021, 213 people have been shot, 35 of which were 18 and under. With nearly 30 dead from gun violence just this year, action is underway.
On Wednesday, federal agencies are expected to address the rise in gun violence within Rochester as well as announce a plan to combat the violence. However, this trend is not limited to Rochester.
13 Wham reported:
“Over the July 4th holiday weekend, 51 people were shot and killed across New York state, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday. For perspective, he said 13 died from COVID in that timeframe. In Rochester over that same period, nine people were shot, two fatally, in six incidents, according to Rochester Police.”
Also, Cuomo made a statement. Within his statement he said:
“This is a national problem. I get it. But somebody has to step up and somebody has to address it.”
