Monroe County to Launch Food Scrap Collection Program

Starting in September, Monroe County is set to partner with Pittsford’s residents, the Monroe Community Hospital, and the Monroe County Jail in an initiative aimed at promoting sustainability. The goal is to collect food scraps such as meat trimmings, expired food items, and leftover food, from 500 households within the Pittsford community. These collected scraps will undergo processing to transform them into organic fertilizer. The biogases generated during this process will be used to produce renewable energy.
