After the state of emergency was announced in Monroe County, Governor Kathy Hochul is sending members of the National Guard to Monroe County to help alleviate nursing home staffing shortages. Yesterday, Lt. Governor Brian Benjamin made the announcement for Monroe County in Rochester. Benjamin stated: “We are also looking at more folks of the National Guard stepping up to the plate. It requires continuous conversation but we are acting and we are going to continue to do so.”
The National Guard is expected to be in Monroe County by the end of the week. Monroe County executive Adam Bello stated: “This is clearly what’s been identified is our hospitals and something we talk about every week. It’s the nursing homes that are really how we free up those acute care beds that are in much need in our county.”
