Monroe County is adding 40 new positions and increasing funding for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office by $7 million.
The 40 new positions include 30 new role patrol positions, three lieutenants, and a juvenile investigator position that will address crimes committed by youth. The additions come as there has been an increase in smash and grabs, gun violence, and car thefts in the county.
The county is also creating a new facility that will improve communications between local law enforcement agencies. The facility called the Regional Investigative Operations Center will incorporate state-of-the-art technologies. The RIOC will address crimes committed across towns and city jurisdictions.
