As monkeypox cases have increased, New York State awaits an additional 1.8 million doses of the monkeypox vaccine that will be available to states on Monday. According to Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, while vaccine appointments are available for those considered to be at higher risk of contracting the virus, supplies of the vaccine remain limited and he isn’t sure when the next shipment will arrive for everyone.
Bello stated: “The Monroe County Health Department and Dr. Mendoza have been meeting regularly with more of the college and university administrators and leadership around precautions that they should take in the event that they have evidence or concern that monkeypox of spreading on their campus. So, we have been engaged in offering that advice as well as also offering engagement and strategy but so far, they have not seen anything that would create undo alarm.”
