Monkeypox in Monroe County: ‘We are not in a crisis’
Written by Site Hub on August 6, 2022
While President Biden declared a public health emergency, Monroe County’s top doctor says it’s critical people take precautions against monkeypox. Currently, there have been six confirmed cases in Monroe County and all infected patients have traveled outside the area.
Public Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza stated: “Students will be coming from areas where monkeypox may be more prevalent. Infected individuals might not experience symptoms for close to two weeks after exposure and it’s still not entirely clear how people transmit monkeypox when someone doesn’t have symptoms…We are not in a crisis – far from it. We are simply asking everyone to stay informed, to know your risk, and to take precautions.”
