Microphones Will Be Switched Off During Parts Of Thursday’s Presidential Debate

In response to the last presidential debate, the commissioners have implemented a new policy that will create a less challenging environment for a real conversation to occur.
During Thursday’s debate, Democratic nominee Joe Biden and President Donald Trump will have their microphones cut off during portions when their rival speaks.
The microphones will stay on during the open discussion part, but the commission insists that they stay off during the two minute statement portions.
The commission gave a statement to back up their decision that read:
“During the times dedicated for open discussion, it is the hope of the Commission that the candidates will be respectful of each other’s time, which will advance civil discourse for the benefit of the viewing public.”
