Us actress Lupita Nyong’o has just confirmed that she will be releasing an audiobook version of her award-winning 2019 children’s book, Sulwe.
The story follows a 5 year old girl, Sulwe, who has the darkest skin in her family and wants to be beautiful like her mother and sister.
Sulwe means “star” so the story has her take a journey to the sky where she learns how to be herself and see her beauty for what it is.
Nyong’o gave a statement regarding the release to People:
“Listening to a book read aloud is such a personal, intimate way to experience the characters and story. I wanted to narrate the audiobook for Sulwe myself in order to bring to life the characters as I had imagined them in my head when writing the book.”
The audiobook is scheduled to be released February 23 via Listening Library.
