Locals Prepare for Lifted School Mask Mandate
Written by Site Hub on March 2, 2022
It’s official, today the mask mandate has become officially optional for students and staff. Governor Kathy Hochul left the mask decisions up to the counties, and Monroe, Livingston, and Ontario County leaders have all announced they will not mandate masks in their local districts.
Dr. Mike Mendoza, Monroe County Health Commissioner, spoke out on the mandate being lifted, stating; “Omicron which we still believe is a dominant variant here in the community is much milder – that does not mean it is not a concerning – to some – especially those who are medically vulnerable but we are going to treat each case on a case by case basis. If we need to make recommendations about a school to close a classroom I think that would be a conversation we have with the school.”
