On March 15th, 2024, local students from Ogden, N.Y., united at the ROC2Change Summit, an event dedicated to dismantling racial barriers. The summit, gathering students from over 30 schools across the county, served as a platform for open discussions on race, privilege, racism, and colorism. Janae, a 10th-grade student from Eastridge High School, emphasized the importance of addressing these issues within the community to ensure equal opportunities for all. This year’s theme, “unity grows communities,” reflects the summit’s goal of fostering understanding and collaboration among students despite their differences. Javier Ortiz, an 11th grader from Rochester Early College International High School, expressed his hope for the summit to inspire students to overlook their differences in favor of unity. The ROC2Change Summit, now in its eighth year, has seen hundreds of students participate, underscoring the vital role of young voices in shaping a more inclusive future.
