If your morning commute takes you past the local General Motors plant on Lexington avenue, then you’ve probably seen the picket line that has been gathering since September 16th.

More than 800 local GM employees have now been on strike for 18 days to address concerns they have regarding temporary workers, as well as the fact that GM has been shutting down United States factories and moving jobs to China and Mexico.

According to the United Auto Workers union, at least 49,000 members at 55 General Motors plants in the U.S. have been out of work and on the picket line with the hopes to impact change within their workplace.

Union President Dan Maloney states, “It’s just immoral. They have temps: three, four, five years no vacation, low pay and no benefits. We believe in equal pay for equal work.”

Stay tuned for more updates on the General Motors strike.
