It’s been ten years since Mayor Byron Brown named October 8th “Shemika Charles Day” in Buffalo, NY. The honor came a month after Shemika set the Guinness World Record for lowest limbo of 8.5 inches off the floor! The event was televised Live with Regis & Kelly in September 2010.
On Friday October 9th, 2020 Shemika is back to set another record as the first person to limbo under TWO vehicles! This time she will be live with Kelly & Ryan from her native Trinidad!
I first met Shemika in 2014 as she was singing with her family’s band Caribbean Extravaganza. She was so humble and nice to my daughter and I. You would have no idea that she was a record holding limbo star.
In 2016. she competed in Beijing, China where she won her 2nd Guinness World Record for “The Farthest Distance to Limbo under 12 inches.” Her first record in 2010 still holds as the lowest limbo dancer in the world. The internet exploded when she broke another record to be the first person to limbo under a vehicle in 2017.
Watch her performance on America’s Got Talent.
We are so happy for and proud of Shemika (who recently became Mrs. Charles). I can’t wait to see what she does next!
