Baby Phat is back. The 1990s and early 2000s clothing line brought streetwear to the runway. The founder of the Baby Phat designer line, Kimora Lee Simmons, notes that this label “has always been designed by and for women.” And now, with Baby Phat’s collaboration with Foot Locker, it brings the first-ever collection for women to Foot Locker’s line.
Named the “Courtside Capsule”, this new clothing line collection by Baby Phat features a red, black, and white color scheme. Sporty fashions include a Full Zip Jogger and Hoodie and a Lace Tank form-fitting dress. Simmons notes that her daughters, Ming Lee and Aioki Lee, were inspirations behind the new designs, which blend sporty and feminine qualities into the collection.
Back in 2009, here is how Simmons described her models, which was a departure from the traditional runway look: “They might sometimes be a size bigger than the other one who was a size zero. They have more ‘hip,’ more color, more bang to their personality. It’s what I represent culturally in society: all colors, all women, all shapes and sizes.”
Beyond her fashion talents, Simmons is also a humanitarian. Simmons and her daughters recently donated 150,000 meals through the Freedom Shield Foundation to feed families who’ve been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. And they plan to donate 160,000 more meals toward this effort.
