Keri Hilson Splashes Back on the Scene in New Video Directed by a Buffalo Native

Written by on May 17, 2020

Keri Hilson is back on the music scene and she is on the AfroBeat wave with a new album slated to drop this year!

Miss Keri Baby has been on hiatus since her 2010 album “No Boys Allowed”, which gave us the mega hit “Pretty Girl Rock”.

During Saturday’s IG Verzus battle between Ludacris and Nelly, Keri was celebrated for the music she did with both artists – Keri chose to highlight the single “Pimping all over the World”, for which she wrote the hook.

In 2018 she revealed that her battle with depression was the main reason she stepped out of the spotlight and started to focus on giving back through the Keri Hilson Foundation.

In March 2019 Keri teased a new album that was supposed to drop that Summer.

She performed a couple of concerts in the fall/winter, but still no new music – much less a while KH album.

Fast forward to the Spring of 2020, Keri posted a picture of herself on set with AfroBeat artist Stonebwoy, celebrating the debut of his new album and her feature on his single “Nominate”.

We now know that a chance meeting with a guy at the airport led to Keri linking up with Stonebwoy in Atlanta and magic happened in the studio.

She told The Shade Room this about the long awaited album that is now slated to drop in 2020:

“I’ve actually been ready to release new music for a good minute, but as you know this is the ‘business of music’,” she tells us. “I’ve definitely learned, like anything else in life, that it’s a lot harder to get out of things than it is to get into them. But I’m in a good place now that allows me to start to release things.”

The “Nominate” video dropped at the end of April and it already has over a million views.

I caught up with Buffalo Native Denzel Williams, who was tapped to direct the video and introduce America to Stonebwoy and reintroduce the 37 year old Keri Hilson to a new generation.

Check out my IG Live at Interview with the young director who is on a mission to put Buffalo on the map as a place for creatives and inspire others to follow their dreams.
