Justice Department Ends Investigations into Insider Trading by Senators

Written by on May 28, 2020

The Justice Department has ended its investigations into the insider trading that allegedly occurred by Senators Dianne Feinstein of California, Kelly Loeffler of Georgia and Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma. The accusations are based on transactions made in the weeks before the coronavirus pandemic began affecting the stock market.
Recent discoveries in the inquiry suggest that Senator Richard Burr, R-N-C and former Intelligence Committee chairman is close to the center of the controversy and federal law officials have executed a search warrant for his cell phone. Burr denies any wrongdoing, but his financial records indicate that he and his wife sold between $600,000 and $1.7 million just before the market fell and concern about the coronavirus pandemic became public.
A spokesperson for Burr’s attorney has confirmed that the senator is “Actively cooperating with investigators”
