Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine Pause Has Been Lifted

Written by on April 24, 2021

Earlier last week, the FDA had put the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine on pause due to some rare complications that were being reported. Fifteen women out of the 7 million who have received the vaccine have reported severely rare blood clots that may be linked to the vaccine. Yesterday, a panel of experts from the FDA and the CDC lifted this pause, allowing the shot to continue to vaccinate people.

The fifteen women, ages 18-48, who have reported the rare blood clot have developed a cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST). CVST is a clot in the area of the brain that collects and drains oxygen-depleted blood. Both the CDC and FDA stated that the risk of getting this blood clot is “very low.”
