Joe Biden announces that he will pick a female running mate

Former Vice President Joe Biden, who is currently campaigning to win the Democratic candidacy in the race to become the next president of the United States, made a surprising announcement on Sunday, March 15, 2020. He stated that he would pick a woman as his running mate.

This can be considered good news for black women given that Biden has repeatedly indicated that he might choose a black female political leader as a running mate. Biden has worked closely with Senator Kamala Harris in the past and has mentioned former Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams as well. He also admires former First Lady Michelle Obama. He even indicated earlier this year that he liked the idea of Obama as a running mate.

During his debate against Senator Bernie Sanders, Biden stated that he believed that there were several women who were “qualified” to be president and that he was willing to pick one for the vice presidency. Later that night, he left no room for confusion by clarifying on Twitter that his running mate will definitely be a woman.

Biden has previously stated that whoever he picks must be younger, experienced and ready for either job. They must also be compatible with him in relation to goals and a similar vision for the future.
