This past weekend the WDKX Jam Squad was invited to attend the Summer Meals Kickoff Festival this past Saturday, June 8th at Frontier Field. After experiencing this festival, I honestly can say that Rochester does their best to show love and support for our youth. The Summer Meals Initiative was created to help feed children under 18 years old free breakfast and lunch all summer long.

While there, I spoke with one of the hosts of the event to gain more incite.  She said, “Some kids are not able to eat during the summer due to parents working all day, which is why we have programs like this to help those in need.”

It is programs like this that will make a difference in a child’s life and make them realize that they have help and support from their community. The Summer Meals Initiative has more than 200 locations throughout Rochester, that way families won’t have to travel far.

I personally had an amazing time at the festival. There was food, games and even a bouncy house that you know we had to go on! What I liked most about the whole event was the opportunity given to the kids and parents to try out the Summer Meals samples and give their feedback. There were just lots of families out and about having a great time.

For more information on the Summer Meals Initiative, you can call 211 or visit www.summermealsroc.org/ for further details on locations.
