Jam Squad Recap: RJO/RWIFO 8th Annual Community Health Fair
Written by wdkxwp on June 19, 2019
This past weekend the WDKX Jam Squad attended the 8th Annual Community Health Fair, presented in partnership by the Rochester Jamaican Organization and the Rochester West Indian Festival Organization, Inc. In celebration of Caribbean American Heritage month, these two organizations came together to provide the community with healthy food sampling, nutrition tips, blood pressure and diabetes screening, AIDS and HIV testing, fitness, CPR demonstrations and so much more!
Each vendor in attendance offered their own specialized healthy tips and treats. Whether is was a free toothbrush from Jordan Healthcare, a cooking nutrition tip from FoodLink or some free condoms from Trillium Healthcare, each organization contributed to the RJO and the RWIFO’s shared goal of community health. Some of the other vendors included MVP Healthcare, B+ Healthy Fresh Foods, and D & L Groceries; just to name a few.
This event couldn’t have come at a better time! Now more than ever we are seeing our community take the necessary steps toward living an all around healthier life. Especially now that the weather has turned, we all want that beach body poppin’!! ??♀️ It was also nice to see children from the Boys & Girls Club in attendance, it’s never too early to learn about leading a healthy lifestyle.
I personally learned a lot during the B+ Healthy Fresh Foods’ nutrition demonstration. I was also thrilled to walk away with some amazing Caribbean food, another great reason to attend any RJO or RWIFO event LOL! ??♀️ In my opinion the RJO/RWIFO 8th Annual Community Health Fair was a success, I can’t wait to see what (food) will be offered next year! ??
