On Monday, November 18, 2019, the WDKX Jam Squad had the opportunity to attend the HBCU College Fair 2019 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. HBCU stands for Historically Black College or University, and representatives from nearly 30 different of these historically black colleges showed up to speak with the students.

This fair was unlike any other fair I’ve ever seen or attended as a student, this fair was NO JOKE! There were so many students from schools all over the region in attendance. I met students from Rochester high schools, as well as high school students from Buffalo and Syracuse.

The fair featured discussion panels with college and university organizations, fraternities, sororities, students and staff as well as an opportunity for students to interview with current college admissions representatives on the spot! The local sororities and fraternities also set up a voter registration table in the lobby to get those students of age registered to vote in the next election.

Some of the HBCUs in attendance included Morehouse College, Clafflin University, Clark Atlanta University, Jackson State University, Spelman College, Fisk University and so many more! Also, WDKX’s very own DJ Reign was the featured DJ for the event, and she didn’t disappoint! Between her dope mixes and the energy of the students, this didn’t feel like a college fair at all, it felt more like a party!

This event was so packed and I know for a fact that all the students who attended definitely learned a lot. Not only were they able to learn about what potential historically black colleges or universities they may attend, but they also got practical information on college life. On top of this, students were able to meet local sororities and fraternities, register to vote and they even got a nice complimentary lunch. HBCU College Fair 2019 was definitely the place to be today!
