J. Lo Confirms “This Land Was Made for You & Me” [VIDEO}

Normally when I hear “This Land is Your Land” by folk singer Woody Guthrie, I am a bit enraged. Thinking about when the lyrics were written in 1940, I know that Guthrie was not talking about Native Americans, Blacks or Latinos when he sings “this land was made for you and me”.
But the song hit different on Inauguration Day 2021 when Jennifer Lopez put her spin on it.
Rocking diamonds and pearls, J. Lo stepped up to the microphone on the steps of the Capitol and reclaimed the power that was once reserved for white males.
Seeing a Latina singing this song, gave the words new life and opened up the traditional song up to a whole new interpretation; especially as we prepare to witness the first female and person of color take the Vice President’s oath of office.
