Irondequoit Bay Outlet Bridge to close for vehicles April 1 for boating season

Written by on March 31, 2024

The Irondequoit Bay Outlet Bridge, a critical infrastructure component at the north end of Irondequoit Bay, will transition to its seasonal operation to accommodate marine traffic starting April 1, 2024. Managed by the Monroe County Department of Transportation and regulated under a United States Coast Guard permit, this move signifies the bridge’s annual swing open to allow boaters access through November 1. Situated between Lake Road in Webster and Culver Road in Irondequoit, the bridge operates on a unique schedule: it is available for vehicular traffic from November 1 through March 31 and then swings into storage from April 1 to October 31 to open the channel for boating season. This routine ensures that both motorists and boaters can alternately make use of the area during the respective seasons, marking a sure sign of spring’s arrival in the region.
