Old Irondequiot Mall Is Slowly Becoming A Community Center

According to Irondequoit Town Supervisor Dave Seely, the renovations on the old mall are coming along nicely and he barely recognizes it anymore.
“That’s what we said all along is we want to take your perception of what something was and what you think it might’ve still been and reimagine it.”
The mall is being slowly transformed into a new community center and will include amenities like a gym, basketball and volleyball courts, turf fields, a fitness center and a dance studio.
Te second floor will have a “modern, naturally – lit cafeteria” for adults. The main focus will be for seniors and older adults, but Seely wants to see the community come together:
Not just our seniors too, we’re looking to pivot really after, in evenings, and transition to a place where teens would want to come. So it’s gonna be really multigenerational here and that’s what we wanted to do is have an experience for the entire town.”
