House Approved Funding for RGRTA Electric Charging Depot

Funding to help the Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority get closer to an all-electric fleet has been approved by the House of Representatives. RGRTA will begin using this funding for an electric charging depot, where a design is already in the making. The House of Representatives has approved $800,000 for this special project, however, the Senate still has to sign off on it.

Representative Joe Morelle (D-NY) spoke on behalf of this matter and said that the depot will allow RTS to potentially expand its electric fleet eight times over. In a quote from Rep. Morelle, he stated; “They’ve already acquired 10 electric vehicles, with 10 more on the way next year, and this project would allow them to significantly expand that and house up to 80 electric vehicles. That type of massive shift from diesel to electric vehicles will have a profound effect on reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.”
