Written by on June 18, 2021

The nation’s homeless population was on the rise pre pandemic. However, after the last official count, people who work in the homeless community to give back believe the numbers are much higher.

CNN reports:

“’I would estimate we’ve got about 8,000 people who are sleeping out on the streets or in some of the shelters,’ said Shirley Raines, whose non-profit serves the homeless community on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. By the last official count in early 2020, more than 4,500 individuals resided in the roughly 50-block area.”

Raines went on to say:

“There are more women on the street than before. The resources had dried up.”

Raines and her organization, Beauty 2 the Streetz, is a go to on Skid Row for food, clothing, hair, makeup, and hygiene items. Whether it is raining or gorgeous weather, Beauty 2 the Streetz is setting up shop.
