Governor Hochul Updates Rules on Nursing Home Visitations

During a press conference yesterday morning, Governor Kathy Hochul announced changes to the rules for visitors at nursing homes. When visitors enter a nursing home, all visitors must wear a surgical mask when visiting a home, and not a cloth one. In addition to the surgical mask rule, visitors must show proof of a negative covid test within 24 hours of their visit.
Governor Hochul stated that the changing of rules is designed to prevent breakthrough infections in nursing home residents. New York also says that the nursing homes will be provided with enough test kits, though it is preferred visitors take the test at home, prior to visiting.
