Governor Hochul Signs Laws to Strengthen Gun Control in NY

Yesterday, Governor Kathy Hochul signed a law that passed state legislation back on June 2nd. This “nation-leading” law is intended to strengthen red flag laws and close loopholes on things like high-capacity magazines while upping the age to purchase- or even own a semi-automatic rifle from 18 to 21. The package is aimed at strengthening measures that came in the 2013 NYS Safe Act.
In addition to this, Governor Hochul also signed a bill to tighten the existing Red Flag Law, which requires guns to be kept away from people deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.
