Frank Ocean’s New Releases

After four long years, Frank Ocean resurfaces. Not only did he release a new album, but also a visual album and a zine! In my opinion, Endless (his visual album) and Blond are artistically magnetic. I’ve watched Endless about 8 times and I still have Blond on loop. Remember like a week ago when I was pissed off watching a video of an empty warehouse with glimpses of Frank? Well, that turned out to be the setting for Endless, in which he constructs a spiral staircase while his album plays in the background every track perfectly blending into one another. I loved it. I have to find a new link for those of you who haven’t seen it yet. All his new releases are exclusively on Apple Music, which I don’t have and Vimeo took down the video I found a couple days ago. Don’t worry I’ll find another link.

As for Blond(e)…

I don’t even have words! Its so poetic, layered, & thought provoking.  I think it’s absolutely beautiful. His references and themes are just what I was anticipating. The more I listen to it, the more is revealed. Even the title. On the album art work its spelled Blond on iTunes its spelled ‘Blonde.’ It may seem like a careless mistake by Apple but I think it was intentional. Blond is the masculine form of the word while Blonde is the feminine – he’s toying with the boundaries of gender and identity. That’s just my take on it though, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Overall I think it’s great. He takes you on a ride down his stream of consciousness like a metaphysical lazy river. Omg and Andre 3000’s verse!!! Listen to Solo (Reprise)! Guess who he’s talking about lol

I almost forgot talk about the zine (magazine) he released, its called Boys Don’t Cry. I haven’t read it yet. I doubt they have anymore copies at the newsstand near me, but I’ll ride by today to make sure. The zine is filled with personal essays, interviews, and poems. One poem that everyone has been talking about is the one by Kanye West. Kanye wrote a whole poem about McDonalds. It honestly sounds like his daughter, North, helped him write it :
