Former President Barack Obama has been quiet about the upcoming presidential election. However, he has recently intervened only to remove a pro-trump ad that’s using his voice to falsely represent his words toward the presidential candidate, Joe Biden.

The ad misrepresents Barack Obama’s words; the ad maliciously uses content from his audiobook against Joe Biden. They chose to use certain excerpts. The ad also referenced Joe Biden’s history on race and concluded with a narrator stating “Joe Biden won’t represent us”. The ad comes as a shock for many reasons due to Obama never speaking out against Joe Biden and the hypocrisy of the current president’s insinuations.

Katie Hill, Obama’s presidential communications director, released a statement stating: “This despicable ad is straight out of the Republican disinformation playbook, and it’s clearly designed to suppress turnout among minority voters in South Carolina by taking president Obama’s voice out of context and twisting his words to mislead viewers”. Barack Obama’s attorney states that they plan on filing a cease-and-desist letter in order to remove the misleading ad from the South Carolina stations it airs on. Katie Hill continued to say: “In the interest of the truth in advertising, we are calling on TV stations to take this ad down and stop playing into the hands of the bad actors who seek to sow division and confusion among the electorate.”
