Former Lt. Governor Brian Benjamin (D- New York) has announced via a video on Twitter that he will “sign the necessary paperwork” to remove himself from the June primary ballot. Benjamin resigned back in April after being indicted on charges of campaign finance fraud. This is the first post from Benjamin since the charges, addressing them by stating: “The truth is I have been wrongly charged for a crime I did not commit” and goes on to say he will remove himself because he would be “unable to serve under these circumstances.”
Check out his video below:
I will sign the necessary paperwork to remove myself from the ballot. I am innocent of these unsubstantiated charges. However, I would be unable to serve under these circumstances. I want to thank all of my constituents and supporters for giving me the opportunity to serve. pic.twitter.com/s7HYTiNiZp
