Find Out The 6 Days This Year New Yorkers Can Fish For Free

Gov. Kathy Hochul made the announcement when New Yorkers can fish for free without a license this year. Hochul, calling the initiative an opportunity for aspiring or former anglers to try out freshwater fishing at any body of water in New York. State residents are encouraged to cast a reel for free on the following dates:
- Saturday Feb. 17 & Sunday, Feb. 18 (Presidents’ Day weekend)
- Saturday, June 29 & Sunday, June 30
- Saturday, Sept. 28 (National Hunting and Fishing Day)
- Monday, Nov. 11 (Veterans Day)
The program was created in 1991 to give people a chance to try the sport at no cost, while also encouraging people to support conservation by purchasing a fishing license.
