Facebook Ban On Donald Trump Will Hold
Written by Site Hub on May 6, 2021
After the insurrection on January 6th, many social network sites have chosen to ban Donald Trump for spreading mistrusted information. Yesterday, Facebook’s Oversight Boarded gathered to decide on whether or not they will continue to suspend him from his accounts. Previously, they had chosen to do it only for 6 months, but with the 6 months approaching it was now decided if it would be indefinitely.
The Oversight Board stated: “At the time of Mr. Trump’s posts, there was a clear, immediate risk of harm and his words of support for those involved in the riots legitimized their violent actions. Given the seriousness of the violations and the ongoing risk of violence, Facebook was justified in suspending Mr. Trump’s accounts.”
Facebook has tried to give a vague response and to avoid accountability for the spread of false information, but the board followed up by stating “The Board declines Facebook’s request and insists that Facebook apply and justify a defined penalty.”
