Events in the Rochester area will honor victims of 9/11

The Rochester area is honoring the victims of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks with several memorial ceremonies. The Brockport Fire District will hold a day-long vigil beginning at 8:30 a.m., with a flag-lowering and memorial bell ringing at 8:47 a.m. A closing ceremony with Taps will take place at 6:30 p.m. Highland Park will host a ceremony from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., titled “Operation We Remember,” featuring Fishers Fire Chief Steve Tschiderer as the guest speaker. Monroe Community College will hold a remembrance event from 8 to 9 a.m. at its Brighton Campus, with a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. Mayor Malik Evans and MCC President Dr. DeAnna Burt-Nanna will give speeches. Irondequoit Town Hall will also hold a remembrance ceremony in partnership with the Irondequoit Police Department, starting at 8:46 a.m.
