We were asked to join this meeting after a peaceful Black Lives Matter rally over the weekend turned violent hours later. Cars were lit on fire, police cars vandalized, crowds were tear gassed and hit with rubber bullets. Crowds ransacked the city Saturday evening looting and destroying public and private property.

Thankfully, no lives were lost however 5 suffered non life threatening injuries and 13 were arrested. According to News 8, “late Sunday night police officials released the photos of 11 people wanted in connection to the violent protest.”

Thousands of community members graciously gathered early Sunday morning to help clean up and restore various areas of the city.

In anticipation of any further violence Gov. Andrew Cuomo authorized an additional 200 New York State Police troopers to help patrol the region and the National Guard is on stand by.

Another rally did occur this evening in front of the Hall of justice and ended peacefully around 5 PM.
